Juliet Lofaro Portrait Photographer new studio business spotlight in Ulster County Chamber of Commerce newsletter and the Kingston Freeman.

Just like so many of you, I needed a new portrait. I was interviewed for an article about my business! I went through the wardrobe, make up, and different set ups to land on a new picture of myself that I love. Now I am using it for my profile picture on most platforms.

The Ulster County Regional Chamber of Commerce invited me to be a spotlighted business in their March 2022 newsletter, which gets sent to members and published in the Kingston Freeman. It’s quite an honor and I thank the President and CEO Ward Todd, and Robert Mitchell who wrote the article which you can find here.

A Journey into Creativity

The Clubhouse Apple Challenge

Hosted by Cent Magazine and Michael Lee

The challenge: One apple, one set, one light, 500 images without stopping (unless to eat or use the bathroom). It took me three hours and forty minutes. The next step was to edit down to 50 and post to my Instagram Highlights. Michael Lee selected Jordan Grobe, and I was chosen the winner by Jo Phillips, Creative Director and publisher of .Cent.

When I was done, my brain was exhausted. At around frame 57, I was concerned about what variations I could come up with. By frame 250, I held my camera with a 50 mm lens right up against the apple to create a blurred yellow sphere. Using a flat LED panel really helped with lighting versatility, as this shot was the apple sitting right on it in the set.

My takeaway: Since I’ve been thinking about clarifying my vision in my portraiture, I want to try this with a human. No intentional outcome. Shoot to play with light, form, and expression.

Look for our images in the June 2021 issue of .Cent magazine!!
